What is With Purpose?
The story behind the charity...
At age 45 and just ten days before Christmas 2023, during a routine annual physical and having no signs or symptoms, Michael Fay was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer affecting the lymph nodes and bloodstream that as of today, remains without a cure. Rather than get down about it, he approached it from a position of strength, hope, and optimism. In an effort to raise awareness and contribute to finding a cure, he started a small fundraiser online. Raising over $40,000 in about 4 weeks, he decided to use the money to start a charity with the hope of doing more good for others. "With Purpose" was then legally formed as the "With Purpose Foundation, Inc." and on April 4, 2024 officially became recognized as a public charity and exempt from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3). Donors can deudct contributions they make to the foundation under IRC Section 170. Our mission is to intitiate and encourage random acts of kindness while raising awareness and funds to help advance research and treatment options in hopes of one day finding a cure. Please consider donating, supporting, and joining this great cause today. All donations made through any of the donate buttons on this site will qualify for deduction under IRC Section 170. Thank you for your support!
Random Acts of Kindness "RAK"s
Giving your best self to others without requests or promise of return on investment. It's simply doing something nice for someone else without them asking and without you doing it expecting anything in return.
We use a portion of funds donated to initiate and encourage RAKs typically ranging from $1 up to $10. We come up with creative, random acts of kindness and initiate them within the communities we reside. We do them to make others feel good. Any recipient of our RAK will get an awareness card letting them know they just got a RAK With Purpose and encourage to pay it forward. Our hope is to spread RAKs, people will support our efforts by making a donation, sharing a story, and inspiring others to pay it forward with a RAK of their own. When you do good, you feel good. And through these efforts, awareness and funds can be raised, so we can keep doing RAKs and contribute to finding a cure for this rare cancer!
Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma "SLL"
SLL is an indolent (slow growing) non-Hodgkin lymphoma that affects B Cells. B cells (also known as B lymphocytes) are specialized white blood cells. Under normal conditions they produce immunoglobins (also called antibodies) that help protect our bodies against infection and disease.
When you have SLL, too many ineffective lymphocytes live and multiply in your lymph nodes. These are pea sized organs in your neck, groin, armpits, and other areas in the body, that are part of your immune system.
Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia "CLL"
CLL is a cancer that affects a type of white blood cell called a "lymphocyte". Lymphocytes help your body fight infection. They're made in the soft center of your bones, called the marrow. If you have CLL, your body makes an abnormally high number of lymphocytes that aren't working right.
3 steps to our charity
Step 1: We initiate RAK's
With Purpose Directors and Kindness Ambassadors will use approved funds with purpose - to initiate and encourage random acts of kindness(RAKs) in the general public.
Step 2: Recipient Pays-it-Forward
Recipients of a RAK will receive a small card with a QR code linking to our information page. The card indicates a random act of kindness just happened and encourages them to pay it forward.
Step 3: Funds Raised = Donations
Our hope is to raise awareness around SLL/CLL through the RAKs we initiate, Recipients will be inclined to share our story and pay a RAK forward. With more awareness, the more money we can raise. The more money we can raise, the more RAKs we can do. The more RAKs we can do, the more money we can donate to help find a cure!
